MONTVERDE, Fla. — Montverde Academy standout sophomore pitcher Nevaeh Williams has announced her verbal commitment to play softball at Ole Miss, a decision that further cements her status as one of the nation’s top high school pitchers. Williams played a pivotal role in Montverde’s historic first FHSAA State Championship last season.
Williams, a dominant force on the mound, finished last season with a 13-4 record, leading Montverde Academy to its first-ever state championship. She pitched 113 innings, racking up 152 strikeouts while allowing only 15 earned runs. Williams has been a varsity player since the eighth grade, and in the past three years, she has accumulated 336 strikeouts and surrendered just 46 earned runs, compiling a career record of 31-10.
“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Ole Miss to further my academic and softball career,” Williams said. “Most importantly, I would like to thank God—none of this would be possible without Him. I would also like to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey throughout these years. Coach Josh, thank you for all the opportunities you’ve given me and for pushing me not only to become a better player but a better person.”
(Williams commitment is the latest for Montverde Academy who now have seven Division 1 commits headed into 2025.)
Williams also expressed gratitude to her family for their unwavering support. “To my family, thank you for always being by my side, believing in me, and supporting me unconditionally. Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you’ve made for me to be in the position I am today. Lastly, a huge thank you to Coach Jamie Trachsel, Ehren Earleywine, Coach Nancy Evans, Coach Bobby Buchanan, and Savana Sikes for giving me this amazing opportunity to become part of such a great program. Go Rebels!”
(Williams holds the FHSAA State Championship Trophy she helped Montverde Academy win earlier this year.)
Her consistency and talent are undeniable, making her one of the most exciting prospects in high school softball and the reason she is headed to the SEC powerhouse. She is among the most pure pitchers I have ever seen in action. Watching her at the State Championships games last season was pure enjoyment. If you have the opportunity to see Nevaeh the next two years before she heads to Ole Miss, put it on your bucket list to see her in action.
As she prepares for her next two seasons at Montverde, Williams will undoubtedly continue to be a player to watch. If last year was any indication, 2024 will bring with it another chance for a State Championship.
