Mount Dora Christian Academy Girls Soccer Team Wins District Championship
The Mount Dora Christian Academy Lady Bulldogs won the Class 2A District 4 Championship last night in a double overtime thriller! The Lady Bulldogs were able to perservere through adversity and ended up with a 2-1 victory!
The Lady Bulldogs are now 14 – 3 this season. The Lady Bulldogs are a young team. Their best players are sophomore’s Riley Conlan with 6 goals and Katie Bayly with 9 goals. They also have a terrific freshman in Lana Boudreau who has impressed this season with 6 goals. Junior Madi Tweedie leads the team in assists.
MDCA led the game in the first half 1-0 before Academy at the Lakes would even the score in the second half setting up the first overtime. No goals were scored but in the second overtime, MDCA found a way to get it done.
As far as goaltending goes, Emmi Bowman has been on her game recently as has the defense! In the last nine games, Bowman has only given up 6 goals. MDCA will now wait to see where they are ranked in the FHSAA Class 2A Playoffs and who they will be facing off against.
For now, coach Clayton McDaniel will get to enjoy this win with his girls but they understand the job is not finished. The FHSAA Playoff brackets will be released this weekend.
