Mount Dora High School football star Tommie “Deuce” Wheeler has signed his college commitment letter with Dodge City Community College in Kansas where he will continue his academic and playing career.

Wheeler was a standout player for Mount Dora High School playing defense. He was the team’s lead linebacker last year and had 82 tackles on the season. He caused a fumble and had a few sacks last year. Wheeler was very impressive on defense. He is also listed as a tight end but his focus especially last year was playing at the linebacker position.

In attendance were family, friends, and coaches including Luke Hutchinson who is the head coach for Mount Dora High. Coach Hutch as he is known by his players has been building the Mount Dora High program the past few years into a winning school. The past two seasons Mount Dora has had winning records under his leadership.

Tommie “Deuce” Wheeler was a huge reason for the team’s success on the defensive side of the ball this season along with players like Russell Fickett and Anthony Dawson who are also graduating.

The defense will look a bit different in 2024 but this group of seniors along with Wheeler have left a great legacy for the upcoming underclassmen. Mount Dora is bringing back a strong core group of offensive players and defensive players who will be exciting to watch this year.

We want to congratulate Tommie “Deuce” Wheeler on this big commitment and we are so excited to watch him continue his academic and playing career on the gridiron in 2024!
