Mount Dora High School is celebrating one of the best seasons ever for the schools wrestling program. Four of their talented wrestlers have clinched spots in the upcoming State Tournament.

Leading the charge are seniors Anthony Dawson and Russell Fickett, who have been instrumental in the team’s success. Their dedication and skill have propelled Mount Dora High into the spotlight as they prepare to compete in the individual state championships.

(Russell Fickett is awarded a victory at a recent wrestling meet.)

In the 175-pound class, Anthony Dawson showcased his skills by claiming the Regional Championship with a stellar performance, securing his spot in the State Tournament. Aiden Morillo demonstrated his resilience in the hard-fought 190-pound class, earning a well-deserved 3rd place medal. Russell Fickett, competing in the challenging 215-pound class, also secured a 3rd place medal, showcasing his skill and determination. Colton Fickett secured his spot in the State Tournament with a commendable 4th place finish.

The Mount Dora High Hurricanes are led by head coach David Kemmy who has been instrumental with getting this program off the ground. Just four years ago Mount Dora High did not even have a wrestling program. Now the team and the individual wrestlers are beginning to make a name for themselves. This is a very exciting time for this program and we are so happy to see the sustained successs.

(Anthony Dawson is one of the strongest and most powerful wrestlers to ever come through the Mount Dora High wrestling program.)

As these accomplished athletes gear up for the State Tournament, the Mount Dora High community wishes them the best of luck. Their achievements not only reflect their individual talents but also bring pride to Lake County. We look forward to hearing the outcome as the Mount Dora High School wrestlers prepare to make their mark on the statewide stage. Best of luck!
