Mount Dora School of Ballet Presents the Enchanting Family Ballet Coppélia

What an exciting time of year it is at the Mount Dora School of Ballet! Rehearsals are underway, costumes are coming to life, and dancers are filling the studio with music and movement as the school prepares to present its spring production of Coppélia—a beloved, full-length ballet performed by professional companies around the world.

Brimming with humor, charm, and joy, Coppélia tells the story of a young couple and a mysterious toymaker in a lighthearted tale of mistaken identity. Set to music by composer Léo Delibes, the ballet is a delightful introduction to classical dance and a favorite for audiences of all ages. This year’s spring production will feature three performances at the Mount Dora Music Hall in the Community Building, inviting the public to experience a professional-quality performance rooted right in the heart of their community.

Located in Mount Dora’s vibrant business corridor on 19A, the Mount Dora School of Ballet has served families across Central Florida for over 20 years. The school provides expert training in classical ballet and related dance forms for boys and girls ages 3 to 18. Each spring and winter, students bring their learning to life on stage through the school’s full-length productions, which are known for their artistic integrity and beauty.

The annual Nutcracker, presented each December, has become a treasured part of Mount Dora’s holiday season, drawing over 1,000 attendees and capturing the magic of the holidays with Tchaikovsky’s timeless score.

As Artistic Director and co-founder Kathryn Wheeler explains, “It is always a joy to take our students on a journey through these classical ballets. They grow so much—not just as dancers, but as individuals—as they learn about storytelling, teamwork, and the incredible discipline that ballet requires.”

Wheeler, a longtime resident of the Golden Triangle area, has spent more than two decades in Lake County choreographing, teaching, and inspiring generations of dancers. Her leadership has shaped the Mount Dora School of Ballet into a space where excellence and kindness go hand in hand.

Whether your child dreams of dancing professionally or simply wants to enjoy the beauty and joy of movement, Mount Dora School of Ballet offers a welcoming and structured environment where all students are supported in their journey.
