NFL Kicker Roberto Aguayo To Be Inducted Into South Lake High Athletic Hall Of Fame

CLERMONT, Fla. — Roberto Aguayo, one of the most accomplished kickers in Florida State University history and a former NFL player, will be inducted into the South Lake High Athletics Hall of Fame. Aguayo, a 2012 graduate of South Lake High, will return to his alma mater to receive the honor during a halftime ceremony at an upcoming football game which was supposed to take place tonight but has been moved to a later date TBA.

Aguayo’s football journey began at South Lake, where his precise kicking and clutch performances quickly earned him recognition. Aguayo is a scond-generation Mexican-American whose family traces its roots to the town of Capellania.

Earning a spot on the South Lake High football roster, he began hitting field goals from over 45 yards and drawing interest from major colleges. He even made the ESPNU 150 watch list whic hwas a big honor for a kicker. Eventually Aguayo signed with FSU and his high school success carried over to college, where he became a star for the Florida State Seminoles. In 2013, Aguayo played a key role in helping the Seminoles win the BCS National Championship, setting multiple records along the way. During his three years at FSU, he was named a consensus All-American and won the prestigious Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker.

In 2016, Aguayo made history by becoming the highest-drafted kicker since 2005 when he was selected in the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played in the NFL for several teams, including the Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.

Aguayo is part of a prestigious Hall of Fame class at South Lake High that also includes longtime educator and football supporter Julie Fielding, former MLB pitcher John Koronka, track & field standout Julie Nunn, and multi-sport coach and 39-year educator Bruce Kregloe.

For Aguayo and the other inductees this is where so many good memories happend for them. Since opening in 1993 some amazing people and talent has walked through the doors. When this ceremony takes place it will be a special night. We will keep you updated when the new South Lake HOF Ceremony will take place.
