Rolling Through Challenges: Eustis High SGA Teacher Karen Woodie Leads with Heart
This week, we are thrilled to spotlight an educator at Eustis High School who embodies dedication, resilience, and a deep commitment to her students. Despite a recent injury, Karen Woodie hasn’t let anything slow her down—even showing up to work on a knee scooter, and bringing the school spirit with her! Now that’s dedication!
Born and raised in Eustis, Karen has been a fixture in the local educational community for decades. After attending all the Eustis schools, she went on to graduate from the University of Central Florida with a master’s degree in communicative disorders. Her journey in education began in 2000 when she started working as a speech-language pathologist, a role she cherished for years.
In 2005, Karen joined the Eustis High School family, where she took on a new challenge as the PASS (Positive Alternative to School Suspension) teacher. In this role, she has found her true calling—helping students understand the pragmatics of life, guiding them to make better choices, and ensuring they feel valued no matter what. Her approach is one of empathy and support, always striving to help her students navigate challenges with a focus on their personal growth.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the school’s spirit and culture as the Student Government Association (SGA) and junior class sponsor. Under her guidance, the SGA works tirelessly to foster a strong sense of community and school pride, organizing events that bring the student body together, particularly during sports games. As the junior class sponsor, she’s already busy preparing for one of the school year’s most anticipated events—homecoming and prom.
When asked what she loves most about Eustis High School, she doesn’t hesitate to highlight the sense of family that permeates the school. “Everyone is so supportive, from administration all the way to custodial staff,” she says with a smile. “It’s this close-knit community that makes Eustis High School a special place.”
Karen is exactly the type of person you want leading the PASS and SGA programs at the school. She even pokes fun at her name “My name might be Karen but I am not one of those Karen’s that people love to meme about these days,” she chuckled. “I am so excited about this school year and very happy to have the students back on the Eustis High campus. It’s going to be a great year,” she says.
We could not have said it better! We are so excited for this school year and the many stories that will be told. Be sure to show Mrs. Woodie some love in the comments!
Kyle Coppola was born in Newton, Massachusetts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications from Curry College in 2016. After traveling to Florida on a family vacation, he decided he could not get enough of the warm weather and made the move from snowy Massachusetts to central Florida 8 years ago.
For the last decade Kyle has gained valuable experience in social media content creation, marketing and sales, writing, video production, sports announcing and even broadcasting for local radio stations, such as FM 102.9 in The Villages and FM 91.5 in Massachusetts. Every year he volunteers at The Villages Charter High School as a play-by-play sports announcer for the football games as well as a public address announcer for the basketball games, including the annual Battle at The Villages Tournament.
Outside the office Kyle is a husband and father to two beautiful girls along with their cat. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his family, travel, play golf and swim. He is also a huge sports junkie and even bigger motorsports fan and loves to attend racing events when he can.
