Six-Year-Old Fighting to Walk Again After Crash That Killed Two Teens

A Lake County family is asking the community for prayers and support as a 6-year-old boy continues to fight for his life following the Nov. 15 crash that killed two teens on Hwy 33 in Groveland.
According to a GoFundMe post, 6-year-old Nickai suffered life-changing injuries in the wreck, including a partially shattered spine and internal bleeding that required emergency surgery. He is now being treated at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where doctors have told the family he has only a 50 percent chance of walking again.

The crash, which claimed the lives of two local teens, has left two families grieving and another holding on to hope as the young boy undergoes round-the-clock care.
Nickai’s cousin, who organized a GoFundMe on behalf of his parents, said the child’s recovery will be long and uncertain.
“My 6-year-old cousin Nickai was involved in a devastating wreck that changed his life in an instant,” the organizer wrote. “His spine was partially shattered. There is only a 50% chance he may walk again.”
According to a family member, Nickai’s parents live in Lakeland and are traveling to and from Orlando daily to be at their son’s bedside, which has put a financial strain on top of the emotional toll. Funds raised will help with travel costs, missed work, and medical-related expenses as their son undergoes continued treatment.
“Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help,” the fundraiser says. “Our family deeply appreciates every donation, share, and prayer.”
The tragedy has also deeply affected the family of the teens killed, Jade and Jose. In a public message, Jade’s stepmother thanked the community for the overwhelming support during their grief and urged others to keep Nickai’s family in their prayers.
“We want to thank every single one of you for the overwhelming outpouring of messages, prayers, and love,” she wrote. “As we continue to navigate this unimaginable loss, we also want to ask everyone to please keep the other family involved in this tragedy in your prayers. Their little boy is still in the hospital fighting.”
She encouraged anyone able to do so to consider helping the injured child’s family.
“Every prayer, every share, and every donation matters more than you know,” the GoFundMe reads. “Thank you all again for wrapping us in so much love. We feel it, and we are grateful beyond words.”
