Solar Flare Potentially Causes Massive Cellular Outage Across U.S.

Many major news outlets are reporting that a massive solar flare caused by the Sun has knocked out communication for cell service nationwide. This affects AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile customers across the United States. The sun experienced a coronal mass ejection event around midnight. According to NASA and NOAA “A flare is an eruption of energy from the Sun that generally lasts minutes to hours. Flares of this magnitude are not frequent.”

Users of high-frequency radio signals may experience temporary degradation or complete loss of signal on much of the sunlit side of the earth. The general public need not be concerned. The Flare was an R3 which is on the scale of R1-R5. But an R3 is certainly a strong burst of energy and could have caused some damage. While not common on a massive scale, they do impact the earth from time to time. This is what causes auroras in the skies of the north and south poles of our planet. In this new technological age we are living in, solar flares may begin to have a large impact on our society.

If this is indeed the case and we did experience an R3 Solar Flare event, it would explain a great many things as to why we have been impacted so severely today. We will update with any information we have regarding this event. Some people have reported not being able to call 911 services. However, your phones are equipped with an SOS device that allows this to happen. Please do not call 911 unless it is an emergency.
