South Lake High Boys Basketball Team Riding A Hot Streak

The South Lake Boys basketball team is on a hot streak. They have won their last 5 in a row and the Eagles look the best they have all season long. South Lake now sits at 9-5 headed into a difficult matchup against Foundation Academy who find themselves sitting at 10-5 on the season.

South Lake High School has been led by sophomore Isaiah Pina this year. The 6”6 Center has contributed heavily offensively and defensively for the team. Pina leads the team with 13.7 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.

Senior #22 Kevens Charles has also made his presence felt this season averaging 12.5 points per game. Pina is shooting 50% in the field and Charles is at 45% so they have found some chemistry that has really taken the team to the next level the last few weeks. Coach Stephen Mcleod and his staff have done an excellent job getting the most out of their players after facing adversity to start the season.

After starting 4-5 this team has gone on a winning streak that started in the middle of December on the 19th with a 58-38 win against Belleview and has continued with their most recent win against Hope Academy on the 4th of January. South Lake could get to 10-5 with a win tonight as the Eagles travel to Foundation Academy who are also having a great year so far having won 10 total games.

Things get much more challenging for the Eagles as the next four games are all against opponents with winning records. Eustis, Leesburg and Umatilla will be a huge challenge for the Eagles. Once the Eagles clear that portion of the schedule the back end of January and early February have games that are very much winnable for South Lake.

As Districts will be approaching in a month’s time South Lake should find themselves in a good spot to challenge for a district title this season.
