GROVELAND, Fla. — South Lake High School graduate Destiny Johns is set to embark on her collegiate softball career as a freshman at Florida Atlantic University, bringing an impressive high school résumé to the diamond.

Johns, a versatile athlete who excelled in both softball and volleyball at South Lake, is ready to showcase her skills at the next level. Known for her dynamic play as a shortstop, Johns capped off her senior season last year with a stellar .415 batting average, recording 39 hits, 20 RBIs, 35 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases.

(Johns had a fantastic high school career including multiple district championship victories and a state championship runner-up trophy.)

Her high school career was defined by both individual brilliance and team success. Johns played a key role in South Lake’s 2022 run to the FHSAA Class 5A State Championship game as a sophomore, where the Eagles narrowly fell to Middleburg 1-0. She helped her team reach the FHSAA Class 5A playoffs the past four years highlighted by a regional semifinal appearance in her junior season and two regional quarterfinals.

Now, as she begins a new chapter at Florida Atlantic, Johns is eager to contribute to the Owls’ program. “I’m thrilled for this opportunity,” she said. “Playing college softball has always been a dream of mine, and I’m ready to work hard and help my team succeed.”

(Destiny Johns was named to the Top 100 D1 Freshman Watch List for 2025.)

Not only is Johns ready to play at the highest level in the NCAA she has been put on the NCAA Division 1 Top 100 Freshman Watch List along with fellow teammate Bella Foran.

We are very excited to watch her go to work in the coming weeks! Good luck Destiny!

(Way to represent Lake County! We look forward to seeing Destiny play for the Florida Atlantic Owls this season.)
