South Lake High’s Tyson Williams Is Our Defensive Player of the Week
Groveland, Fla. — South Lake High School linebacker Tyson Williams delivered a standout performance in the Eagles win against Tavares last week 17-12. It was a defensive matchup between both teams and neither offense was able to put together a big game. That mean the defense had to step up and wow did this young man do that in a big way!
Tyson Williams has all the makings of a next level player. The 6″1 junior outside linebacker is off to a massive start this season. Williams had 16 tackles with five for a loss during the win last week. His speed makes him a huge weapon for South Lake High. Running the ball against Williams is hard to do. He’s just in there on every play.
Last year Williams made 81 tackles with five tackles for a loss. It’s shaping up to be a breakout year for this young man. He is already on pace to break his records from his sophomore year. Williams was not a name that many knew until last year but in 2024 this kid is due for a massive year.
After playing two tough games to start the season, the defense for South Lake has held their own. They have only given up 26 points this season. Last year at this point they had given up 51 points so that’s about a 90% decrease in points allowed which is huge. We have to give a shoutout to Brad Lord and his assistant coaches who have certainly turned things around in a positive direction for South Lake High.
