South Sumter’s Malakhi Boone is Our Defensive Player of the Week
Malakhi Boone is one of the best defenders in Lake & Sumter County period! This kid is unbelievable and he had a tremendous week against a difficult opponent with North Miami Beach!
Boone had 3 solo tackles along with 8 assisted tackles, 4 tackles for a loss and 1 sack. That is a monster game that Boone played for South Sumter and his best game to date. He assisted the defense in keeping the running game to a minimum for North Miami Beach. Boone is just a Junior but the 6”2 230 lb linebacker is making his presence known this year!
Boone has picked right up where he left off. Last season he made 85 total tackles for South Sumter which led the team. He had 21 tackles for loss which was second behind teammate Ty Kadur with 30. Boone was also second on the team last year in sacks with 8 total. Ty Kadur had 13 last season.
While Boone has been terrific this season we also cannot state the impact that #36 Kingzly Browning has had this year. The 5”8 190 lb junior has eaten opposing offenses alive this year. He leads the team with 8 total tackles so far with 6. Kingzly will also be a fun player to watch as the season progresses.
Malakhi Boone is just a gifted athlete defensively. He has that natural ability to get in on tackles and offenses have feared him the last few seasons. Running the ball has proved difficult on teams this season. Boone is a prime example of why coach Ty Lawrence just seems to have a great defense every year. Players like these just seem to dominate on a yearly basis at South Sumter.
Usually it is an offensive player that gets player of the week but this week we had to give the best performance of week 2 to Malakhi Boone. We cannot wait to see what the rest of the season holds for this kid.
