BUSHNELL, Fla. — South Sumter High School’s Madison Hoblit was crowned as one of Florida’s top high school weightlifters, winning first place in the Traditional division at the FHSAA Class 1A State Championship in the 199-pound class. She also earned a third-place finish in Olympic weightlifting, capping off a fantastic season for the South Sumter High Lady Raiders weightlifting program.

Hoblit’s championship is a milestone moment for a team that has steadily built a reputation for excellence under head coach Kylie Ondriezek.

“This is such a special moment for Madison and for our program,” Ondriezek said. “She is a phenomenal athlete whose hard work and dedication to the sport paid off on the biggest stage. I could not be more proud of her and of the rest of the team for the success they have achieved this year.”

South Sumter had a program-best nine athletes qualify for the FHSAA Class 1A state tournament. This program has come such a long way in the past few years. The Raiders finished the season with four district champions, three regional champions, and Hoblit’s state title as the crowning achievement.

Hoblit wasn’t the only Raider to medal at the state meet. Lillian Brogan also reached the podium, securing third place in the 183 pound Olympic division.

“This team pushes each other every single day and celebrates each other’s success,” Ondriezek said. “A long line of successful South Sumter girls weightlifters helped pave the way for this moment, and having a state champion on the podium is a dream come true.”

The South Sumter High School girls weightlifting program has established itself as one of the state’s elite. As a team they finished in 7th place out of all FHSAA Class 1A High School programs. That is a fantastic result. With Hoblit’s championship, the bar has been raised even higher for next years team.
