Tavares High Senior Weightlifter Caps Career with a State Podium Finish

Getting started: In middle school I joined the throwing team and that is when I realized how much I loved feeling strong. When I got to high school and took a weight training class, everything changed.
Greatest sports achievement: Finally placing at state my senior year. The two years before that, I placed just outside the top six. I was close, but not close enough. I trained harder and stayed consistent. My senior year I placed third and fourth.
The best feeling: Connections and the adrenaline. I love meeting lifters from other teams and hearing about their seasons and their goals. The adrenaline after a lift is something I cannot fully explain. For a few minutes, I feel unstoppable.
My next goal: To compete in collegiate weightlifting. I want to keep challenging myself and share what I have learned with others.
Pre-game ritual: After weigh-ins at every meet, I always get a chicken tender Publix sub. There is no starting a meet without it. It is my routine and it sets the tone for my day.
Outside of training: I love traveling, driving and spending time with my family and friends. Being around them keeps me grounded and helps me relax.
Biggest inspiration: My brothers. Growing up watching them compete and win had a huge impact on me. Without them, I probably would not have chosen this path. They showed me what dedication looks like.
Future plans: After graduation I plan to become a licensed phlebotomist. I also hope to come back and coach the girls weightlifting team at my school.
Fun fact: I was deeply involved in music. I used to be in honors chorus and band.
