Tavares High Tennis Teams Pickup Pair of Victories Against MDCA

The Tavares Tennis Team picked up a pair of victories over MDCA. The Boys and Girls teams both won. While Tavares was the dominant team on the boys side, the girls contest was much closer.

Boys Tennis 

Tavares Grant Baker Small and Charles Anthony were able to secure victories over Adam Achorn and Mason Hurst 6-3 in boys Doubles. Austin Williams and Michael Alavarez also secured wins over Conor Hagerman and Andres Cualata 6-0. Grant Baker Small is currently 6-1 this season and Charles Anthony is sitting at 6-2 on the year. Both boys were district champions last year and they look poised to potentially win another district championship this year. The two of them looked spectacular against MDCA.

In boys Singles, Grant Baker Small of Tavares dominated over Adam Achorn 8-2. Charles Anthony also had a dominating perofrmance against Mason Hurst which he won 8-0. MDCA had Andres Cualata and Osaias Fontanez put in good performances, however it was not enough to overcome the wins that Tavares was putting together. Ultimately Tavares would win the meet 5-2.

RESULTS

# 2 Charles Anthony (THS) over Mason Hurst 8-0

#3 Aiden Lee (THS) over Conor Hagerman 8-3

#4 Andres Cualata (MDCA) over Justice Ward 9-7

#5 Osaias Fontanez (MDCA) over Jonathan Metheny 9-7

Boys Doubles:

#1 Grant Baker Small and Charles Anthony (THS) over Adam Achorn and Mason Hurst 6-3

#2 Austin Williams and Michael Alavarez (THS) over Conor Hagerman and Andres Cualata 6-0

Girls Tennis 

The Girls Tennis matchup was much cloaser with Tavares just edging out MDCA 4-3. Jennifer Sipos of MDCA got a big win over Abigail Dunn 8-3. However Bailey Brown put in a nice performance for Tavares and won over MDCA’s Rashel Fox 8-4. MDCA’s Alexandra Johnston picked up a gritty win over Tavares Katelyn Lindbloom 8-5. But it was Diya Patel and Kelly Lopez of Tavares High who would put in dominating performances and would get the edge on the competition.

In girls doubles competition it was Abigail Dunn, and Maya Driggers of Tavares Hig who took a close victory over Jennifer Sipos and Rashel Fox 6-4. The other doubles match featured Alex Johnston and Emma Brightman of MDCA winning 6-1 over Chloe Fors and Piper Livingston 6-1. Although MDCA put up a great effort they fell just one win short and Tavares High would win the matchup.

#2 Alex Johnston and Emma Brightman (MDCA) over Chloe Fors and Piper Livingston 6-1

Districts are right around the corner for the tennis teams. We have about 3 weeks to go in the regular season. Tavares is looking very strong down the home stretch of the regular season.
