Our student athlete of the week is Keegan St Amant with Umatilla High School.

Keegan helped Umatilla High school baseball to a district championship victory against Montverde Academy by pitching 6 innings and surrendering only 2 runs against a powerhouse program.

Keegan had six strikeouts in the district championship game which allowed for his offense to go to work. We also have to give a huge shoutout to Umatilla’s Kannon Steinke who had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the contest and Aiden Ross who also had an RBI and had 2 hits.

St. Amant stepped up in a big way. Logan Bowling who’s the team’s #1 pitcher had pitched the night before and delivered a 5-0 win against Lake Highland Prep. So that put St. Amant on the mound and boy did he rise to the occasion.

Montverde Academy is a known all around the country. Some of the best athletes in the world come to play at the program. Umatilla came in as the underdog but the way St. Amant and Umatilla played you would have never thought they were.

This year St. Amant has pitched 32 innings has 27 strikeouts, only 19 earned runs with a 4.20 ERA. He might just be a sophomore but those are very encouraging numbers. Hes an impressive young player and proved he belonged on the biggest stage.

Congratulations to Keegan St. Amant and best of luck to Umatilla in the playoffs.
