Patrick Scheidler, 37

Occupation: Owner, Savage Roofing

What I do: My job responsibilities include everything from daily supervision of the company, solving job site complications, hiring and managing the team, to financial planning, marketing and building company policies and procedures.

How I got started: I’m a second-generation construction worker and began working in the field when I was 12 years old.

I’m passionate about roofing because: I love solving problems, serving the community and creating generational opportunities for my son and beyond.

My biggest professional accomplishment so far: When I opened my first location for my company, there was a pinnacle moment where I remember locking up one day and I was the only person in the building and it finally hit me that “It worked!” I had been grinding so hard for the first year that I didn’t have a chance to stop and smell the roses and it all hit me at once in that moment and literally brought a tear to my eye. I felt so grateful, validated and proud of my team for helping achieve it.

When I’m not fixing roofs or problems: I like to hunt, fish and be on the water, but most people don’t know I actually stream live gaming at night.

My first job: Roofing! Go figure. I would go to the job sites after school and during the summer and clean the grounds, organize tools, and load trucks.

My local mentors: I’ve been so fortunate to have many people in my life along the way that all played their part in my success so far. I would have to mention my mom for her resilience, Andy Dixon for passing on the roofing knowledge and my Uncle Lee for giving me the lion instincts and ability to see three steps ahead.

The best advice I’ve received: One of the best things to learn in business is that knowledge is power. There are books, installation manuals and specs that will teach you anything you want to know. If you’re not reading, you’re not growing. Also, always find a coach when you’re starting something new and leverage their experience for your growth.

Fun fact: Most people wouldn’t know that I enjoy video gaming.

If I had a million dollars to give away: I would give it all to homeless Veterans, young entrepreneurs and youth athletics.

Life after 40: Once I reach the point of retirement, I hope to mentor small business owners and help them grow their businesses. I enjoy helping and seeing people reach their potential.
