Exciting news for Mount Dora’s dedicated law enforcement officers. A memorandum of agreement between the City of Mount Dora and the Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, Inc. (FOP) was unanimously approved during Tuesday’s city council meeting. This agreement paves the way for a significant 13% increase in base pay for all police officers, aimed at enhancing recruitment, retention, and overall job satisfaction among our valued law enforcement professionals.

The decision to implement this increase stems from a shared commitment to maintaining a stable command structure, highly-trained supervisors, and ample opportunities for professional growth within the Mount Dora Police Department.

Under the terms of the memorandum, new-hire officers will start at an hourly rate of approximately $26.75, while seasoned sergeants with 14 years of service will receive $43 per hour. This significant increase in base pay supplements a previous 5% raise received by officers in fiscal year 2023-24.

Moreover, the agreement includes provisions to ensure fair compensation for officers providing outside police services. The minimum hourly rate for such services will be set at $45 for officers and $50 for supervisors, with hourly wages increasing to $50 and $55, respectively, on city-recognized holidays.
