Checkers Restaurant in Bushnell Faces Indefinite Delay

Bushnell residents awaiting the arrival of a new Checkers fast-food restaurant will have to wait a little longer, as the project has hit an unexpected roadblock. Despite early excitement surrounding the development, construction on the location has yet to begin, leaving many wondering what caused the delay.

(The site is supposed to have a Checkers Restaurant, Retention Pond and 10,000 square feet of retail space.)

Located near the busy intersection of County Road 48 and U.S. Highway 301, the planned Checkers was expected to bring a new dining option to the area. However, the site remains untouched, and no visible progress has been made in months. While the exact reasons for the holdup remain unclear we have reached out to Checker’s Corporate to see what the issue is. They have not immediately responded to us as of this writing.

(As of now the site remains trees and while some land clearing has been happening, not much else has been done.)

We also reached out to Sumter County Planning who were unable to come up with any info regarding the delay. They told us to contact Checkers corporate and we continue to wait for a response.

Locals are hopeful the project will eventually move forward, but until then, Bushnell’s craving for Checkers remains unsatisfied. Updates on the status of construction are expected but we are unsure of a timetable on this.
