Community Mourns Double Tragedy as Support Pours in for Dunnellon Coach’s Family

The Dunnellon and surrounding community is reeling from the devastating loss of Coach Chuck Thomas, who passed away on January 4 following a severe workplace accident. His untimely passing comes just six weeks after the tragic loss of his 16-year-old daughter, Vanessa, who succumbed to brain cancer. His family is now left grappling with unimaginable grief while his wife is caring for five children and facing financial challenges.

Coach Chuck Thomas, a beloved figure in the Dunnellon community and head coach of the local football team, was known for his dedication to his players and his passion for mentoring young athletes. Tributes have poured in from those who knew him, with one community member writing, “Rest in peace, Coach. You will greatly be missed. Praying for your family. You will forever be in our hearts.”

This has moved many to action. A GoFundMe campaign, created by Amber Norrie’s sister, Alexus Johnson, has raised over $31,000 so far to help with medical bills, funeral expenses, and daily living costs. In addition to the GoFundMe, community members can donate via Zelle, CashApp, or Venmo to provide further support.

“This is the unthinkable for a close Dunnellon family,” shared one supporter. “Coach Chuck and Amber lost their daughter to cancer, and now Coach Chuck is with her. I cannot imagine. Please keep this family in your prayers as they grieve and process what is happening in their lives.”
