Dance Dynamix Debuts Renovated Studio and Event Space on Main Street in Leesburg

Dance Dynamix has been a downtown fixture in Leesburg for years at the Tropic Theater, but now they have a brand-new space to call home.

The new location is at 606 W. Main St., and the renovations to the building are impressive. Formally occupied by Shops on Main, the space was broken up into vignettes to house items from individual sellers throughout.

Terri Hicks, Dance Dynamix owner and instructor, purchased the spot earlier this year and began the process of renovation in May. The new location is called Moxy on Main, Home of Dance Dynamix, and will also serve as a venue available for rent to host events.

“The project was a huge undertaking, but the result is so worth all of the hard work,” says Terri. “It turned out better than I had imagined. I had a vision of what I wanted the new space to be and with the help of Leah Connor’s design and Lee Woods construction expertise, we made it come to life.”

The new space is the culmination of 32 years for Terri, owning and teaching dance in the local community.

The remodel includes black and white checkered marble floors and exposed beams overhead. There is a main dance room and a second in the back which can also be used for caterers with events taking place in the large dance space.

Dancers had their first chance to practice on the new wood floors Monday, December 7 and the reactions were ones of excitement and awe.

The studio teaches ages 3 and up and the classes include jazz, ballet, hip hop, tap, acrobats, contemporary and more along with the competition classes for those that compete against high level dancers. The studio teaches approximately 250 students who take multiple classes.

After the Tropic Theater sold, Terri was determined to stay in the downtown area and searched for the perfect spot. The City of Leesburg also wanted the business to stay downtown, partly because of the foot traffic it attracts to other businesses along Main Street.

“She brings hundreds of kids each week to downtown and with those children many parents as well that are visiting shops and restaurants which supports our downtown businesses,” says Leesburg City Commissioner Mike Pedersen. “When you add to that the beautiful restoration and remodel she did, it is a win for everyone.”
