Eustis City Manager Tom Carrino is launching a new education initiative for mentorship and tutoring, focused on supporting the city’s youth. The City Manager’s Education Initiative is a partnership between the City of Eustis, the Eustis Police Department and Lake County Schools that will have a direct, positive impact on local elementary-age students. 

On Monday, Aug. 11, the Eustis Police Department presented a check for the City Manager’s Education Initiative. The $20,000 contribution comes from the Eustis Police Department’s Drug Forfeiture Fund. The Eustis Police Department is proud to reinvest these funds into programs that directly benefit young students in our community.

“We are very thankful for the district’s partnership with the City Manager on behalf of the Eustis City Commission,” Lake County Schools Superintendent Diane Kornegay says. “Their financial investment will have a direct and lasting impact on our students’ success. With this funding, we can expand after-school tutoring and enrichment opportunities at two of our schools, ensuring more students get the personalized support they need to excel.”

The initiative will support Eustis Heights and Eustis Elementary school students by covering the cost of providing afterschool tutoring in subjects that are critical to academic success. The extended hours will offer students the opportunity to receive additional instructional time with experienced teachers. 

Eustis Heights Elementary Principal Dr. Juanita McCall extended her gratitude to the City of Eustis, stating, “We are incredibly thankful to the City of Eustis for investing in the future of our students. Your generosity is not only helping to strengthen academic achievement, but also shows our students the meaning of community support and care.”  

Reanna Broadway, Principle at Eustis Elementary, echoed this sentiment. “This initiative is not only innovative, but also deeply impactful providing, our students with meaningful academic support that will make a real difference in their lives.” 

The City Manager’s Education Initiative honors the City’s commitment to community engagement and youth development. The initiative will extend support to approximately 1,000 students across the two schools. There is potential for the program to extend to additional Eustis schools in the future.
