Groveland’s 3rd Annual Star Party Shines Bright This Friday

The City of Groveland is excited to host its 3rd Annual Star Party presented by Duke Energy this Friday, February 28, at Cherrylake Tree Farm from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM. This free, family-friendly event invites the community to explore the wonders of the night sky while learning about light pollution and the City’s International Dark Sky Community certification.
Presented by Duke Energy, the Star Party will feature powerful telescopes provided by the Imperial Polk and Central Florida Astronomical Societies, giving attendees a chance to view planets, stars, and constellations up close. Special guest Derek Demeter, Planetarium Director at Seminole State College, will guide guests through an awe-inspiring journey across the cosmos.
“The City of Groveland is proud to host the third annual Star Party, bringing the community together to celebrate the night sky and our commitment to conservation. As the City with Natural Charm, Groveland is proud to be the first certified Dark Sky Community in Florida and the Southeast United States. We look forward to an evening of stargazing, astronomy, education, and appreciation for the natural beauty above us,” said Andrew Landis, Conservation & Strategic Initiatives Division Manager.
In addition to star gazing, guests can enjoy food trucks, educational activities, and interactive exhibits. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and personal telescopes for a more immersive experience.
