Lake County Residents Demand Urgent Safety Upgrades for CR 42 and SR 44

Lake County, Fla. – Erica Roblee, a longtime resident of Lake County, is rallying the community and local authorities to address the alarming rate of traffic accidents on County Road 42 and State Road 44. Having witnessed the devastation caused by these accidents over the years, Roblee is spearheading efforts to make these roads safer for drivers, pedestrians, and residents.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.35 million people lose their lives in road traffic crashes globally each year. Roblee fears that the lack of proactive measures on these high-risk roads is contributing to this sobering statistic.

“County Road 42 and State Road 44 have always been dangerous, but we cannot neglect the seriousness of this problem any longer,” said Roblee. “Our community deserves to feel safe, and it’s time we take meaningful action to prevent further loss of life.”

Roblee’s petition calls for a series of measures to enhance road safety, including:

  • Increased law enforcement presence to crack down on speeding.
  • Electronic speed signs, powered by solar energy, attached to existing speed limit posts.
  • Rumble strips along road lines to alert drivers when they veer off course.
  • Enhanced road markings, including clearly defined curves and bus stop locations.
  • The addition of turn lanes for safer access to residential areas.

The proposal aims to reduce accidents, improve traffic flow, and protect vulnerable road users.

“The solutions we’re advocating for are practical and proven to save lives,” Roblee added. “Our roads need urgent attention before more lives are lost.”

Residents have chimed in too. Amanda Deland says “As a person who drives these roads everyday with a small child, anything to increase our safety gets my support.” Another Lake County resident Michele DeBary says “I fear for me and my families safety while driving to and from home. There are multiple fatal accidents that have happened on these roads and I find myself holding my breathe, praying it’s not one of my loved ones. There has to be action taken.”

Roblee is urging local authorities and the Florida Department of Transportation to act swiftly and implement these changes. She is also calling on community members to support the cause by signing her petition.

“This is about defending our community’s safety,” Roblee emphasized. “Together, we can make a difference and create safer roads for everyone.”
