LAKELAND, Fla. — The Leesburg High School boys’ basketball team saw its season come to an end in the FHSAA Class 5A State Semifinals, falling to Ponte Vedra in a hard-fought triple overtime battle 54-47 at the RP Funding Center. The Yellow Jackets, who finished the season at 17-8, made their deepest postseason run since 2021.

Under the leadership of head coach Sean Campbell, Leesburg returned to the state’s biggest stage with a roster that showcased both experience and rising talent. The Yellow Jackets’ journey to Lakeland was fueled by standout performances from senior Angelo Moton, who provided a dynamic presence on both ends of the court, and Jalen Brown, whose athleticism and leadership were pivotal throughout the season.

“Our guys showed so much heart this year,” Campbell said. “Getting back to this point wasn’t easy, but they stayed committed to the process and played with the kind of intensity and passion that defines Leesburg basketball.”

Leesburg’s season was marked by resilience. The team overcame adversity, battled through a tough schedule, and proved themselves in the playoffs with key victories that secured their spot in the Final Four. Moton and Brown were instrumental in leading the Yellow Jackets through critical moments, while the coaching staff’s emphasis on discipline and preparation paid off in their postseason run that included a district championship and regional championship victory against Lecanto High School.

Though the loss in the semifinals was a tough way to close the season, the Yellow Jackets reestablished themselves as a force in Class 5A. It will be intersting to see if they can replicate this success next season and make it back to Lakeland in 2026. For now, the season is over and the Yellow Jackets will look to regroup in the off-season. Best of lukc to Ponte Vedra in the State Championship game.
