Mayor Chris Creech Focuses on Maintaining Umatilla’s Rural Way of Life

Mayor Chris Creech

Getting involved: After getting a look at how the municipal government sausage was made, I quickly realized you can have meaningful impact on the success of your community as a whole from a city council seat. Being elected mayor is a result of my involved tenure on city council. I am wholeheartedly invested in our community and want nothing but the best for our wonderful city and my neighbors. Protecting our rural lifestyle by keeping density down is an everyday project for our government.
A typical day: Long-term planning is a regular task, working on high priority issues takes up time and any given day you can be asked to cut a ribbon or speak at an event. Our council wouldn’t be so efficient without our superb city staff supporting us.
Umatilla’s heart: Our rich history and community spirit are so important. Umatillians shop local to support small business, show up when it matters most in support of a charitable cause, helping a neighbor in need and always having pride in ownership of our great community.
Most proud accomplishments: Workshopping and redrafting our land development regulations to support lower density and a thriving rural community. Being a part of the rehabilitation of our entire water and wastewater utility system. Setting course for 50 plus years of water and sewer utility excellence in Umatilla.
My legacy: To live a life with values and purpose in a way that inspires future generations to endeavor to love one another and be good citizens.
Outside of work: I like doing anything outdoors with my lovely wife Kristen and two beautiful children Carter and Caroline.
My message: Love thy neighbor, lead an authentic life and leave this world just a little better than the way you found it. ®
Fun Fact: I am a member of the Umatilla Lodge No. 65, F. & A.M. in Umatilla.
