MOUNT DORA, Fla. — The Mount Dora Hurricanes have unveiled their 2025 football schedule, setting the stage for another great season under head coach Luke Hutchinson. After leading the Hurricanes back to the FHSAA playoffs for the first time in a decade last season, Hutchinson and his team are looking to build on that success and take the program even further.

Mount Dora’s 10-game slate includes five home matchups and five away games, featuring key district contests against Bishop Moore (Sept. 12), Atlantic (Sept. 26), Tavares (Oct. 10), and Eustis (Oct. 24). The Hurricanes will kick off the season at home against Boone on Aug. 22 before taking on rival East Ridge High from Clermont on the road on Aug. 29.

“This schedule presents a great challenge for our team, but that’s exactly what we want,” said Hutchinson. “We have a lot of guys returning with varsity experience including Shaddiel Torres, Zach Smith and Tymir Gaines on offense and guys like Willie Dixon, Colton Fickett and AJ Staples on defense. We strengthened our schedule for next year with the addition of Boone High and Hagerty High. Those should both be challenging and physical games and help prepare our guys for our distirct opponents.” says coach Hutchinson.

The Hurricanes will face another tough test at home against South Lake on Sept. 19 before playing Atlantic in a crucial district clash. October will bring a trio of matchups that could determine Mount Dora’s postseason fate, including a big road game against Tavares High and a home game against Eustis. Hagerty is sandwiched in between on Oct. 17. The regular season will conclude with a rivalry showdown against The Villages on Oct. 31st a game that has become very competitive in recent years.

Mount Dora, known for its fast-paced offense and aggressive defensive play, made a return to the playoffs in 2024. The Hurricanes are aiming for consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in years, with returning talent and new additions looking to make an impact.

“Our guys are hungry,” Hutchinson added. “They know what it takes to win, and they’re putting in the work to be ready for 2025.”
