Retired Deputy Chief aims to revitalize local retail scene.
Max Parker, Jr.
My career: I attended Savannah State University on a football scholarship, majoring in business administration and minoring in economics. Form there, I attended the FBI Academy, then worked for the City of Tampa Police Department and the Leesburg Police Department before retiring in 2017.
My goals: As the general manager at the Lake Square Mall (LSM), my goal is to make it a community mall. LSM has a great staff, team, and tenants. I want to allow the staff and team the space they need to do their jobs while respecting the community. Ultimately, revitalization will automatically establish growth.
I shop local because: The most valuable benefit is knowing the local businesses and assisting in the growth of your community.
Fun fact: I was the assistant executive director of the State of Florida Boxing Commission from 2004 to 2006, an international boxing referee from 1984 to 2011 and was inducted into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame in 2009.
Advice I’d give my younger self: Nothing. It’s not that I was perfect, because I was not. But because of the experiences and situations I’ve been through, whether good, bad, sad, or glad, I’ve learned and grown from them.
Life is always challenging in so many different ways, but truthfully, I can only deal with me now. I have to leave my younger self intact as it was.
I love: The people of Lake County. I want to make a difference one person at a time.
A valuable lesson I’ve learned: To enjoy every second of life.
My favorite movie: I loved the James Bond movies: 007 . . . ‘Bond, James Bond.”
