Lake County is hosting a ribbon-cutting for the grand opening of the new recreational building at Miracle League Field on Saturday, March 14 at 9:30 a.m. at 12335 County Road 448 in Tavares.

The new building, located at Lake Idamere Park, houses restrooms, an office space and a concession stand. Every space within the building is accessible to people of all abilities, eliminating any barriers to visually impaired visitors or visitors who are wheelchair or walker bound.

“Miracle League Field and the Boundless Playground at Lake Idamere Park promote a quality recreational experience for visitors with diverse abilities,” Bobby Bonilla, director of the Office of Parks and Trails, said in a press release. “The new recreational building helps to further support that experience.”

Miracle League Field at Lake Idamere Park provides recreational and educational opportunities for people of all abilities. Other quality-of-life projects on the site include the Boundless Playground and Miracle League Field. The playground features a rubberized surface and custom-designed equipment created to assure that children with and without disabilities can play side-by-side in a safe space. Miracle League Field is a custom-designed baseball diamond with related structures that all feature rubberized ground surfaces to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and other assistive devices.

Funding for the new building was approved by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners in April 2019 and is supported by the County sales tax and park impact fees as well as private donations.

Following the ribbon cutting, guests can catch the opening game of the 2020 Miracle League season, which begins at 10:30 a.m.
