South Sumter Middle School Student Larissa Dos Santos Honored As Student of the Month

South Sumter Middle School is proud to recognize Larissa Dos Santos as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Month for December 2024. An 8th-grade student, Larissa has demonstrated exceptional commitment and enthusiasm for her CTE classes, excelling in Digital Information Technology and Exploration of Criminal Justice Occupation.

Having recently relocated to Sumter County in July, Larissa has quickly distinguished herself through her dedication and innovative approach to learning. Among her accomplishments, Larissa has already earned a Digital Discovery certification and has set her sights on achieving a Python Coding Specialist certification during her CTE journey in Sumter County Schools.

A passionate learner, Larissa enjoys working with technology, whether collaborating on group projects or pursuing individual assignments. Her creativity and drive have shone through in her work, reflecting her growing interest in coding and programming, which was sparked during a Computer Science Discoveries course in 7th grade.

“What I enjoy about the CTE program is the opportunity I have to learn about a variety of STEM topics and the flexibility I have to be creative when completing CTE class assignments,” Larissa shared.

Making a Difference in the Classroom

Larissa’s teachers commend her for her active participation, problem-solving skills, and collaborative spirit. Known for her respectful demeanor and support for her peers, Larissa has become a valuable member of the CTE community at South Sumter Middle School.

“Larissa Dos Santos embodies the values and spirit of our CTE program,” said Mr. Ball, CTE teacher at South Sumter Middle School. “We are incredibly proud of her enthusiasm for learning technology and look forward to seeing her continue to thrive and inspire others.”

Kyle Coppola was born in Newton, Massachusetts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications from Curry College in 2016. After traveling to Florida on a family vacation, he decided he could not get enough of the warm weather and made the move from snowy Massachusetts to central Florida 8 years ago.

For the last decade Kyle has gained valuable experience in social media content creation, marketing and sales, writing, video production, sports announcing and even broadcasting for local radio stations, such as FM 102.9 in The Villages and FM 91.5 in Massachusetts. Every year he volunteers at The Villages Charter High School as a play-by-play sports announcer for the football games as well as a public address announcer for the basketball games, including the annual Battle at The Villages Tournament.

Outside the office Kyle is a husband and father to two beautiful girls along with their cat. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his family, travel, play golf and swim. He is also a huge sports junkie and even bigger motorsports fan and loves to attend racing events when he can.
