Sumter County Schools Go All Digital with Sumter One-to-One Initiative
Sumter County Schools have launched the Sumter One-to-One Initiative, a groundbreaking program providing laptops or tablets to every K-12 student. This initiative ensures that all students at South Sumter Middle, South Sumter High, and Wildwood Middle High will receive an individual laptop, which they can use throughout the day and take home.
Through this initiative, students gain access to a wide range of academic software, on-demand assessments, tutoring, multimedia communication, and coding programs. Each student is provided with a Microsoft 365 account, granting full access to Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the TEAMs application. These tools facilitate collaboration and communication among students and teachers, fostering a more connected and interactive learning environment.
Enhancing Technological Preparedness
One of the primary goals of this initiative is to prepare students for a rapidly changing global society. Sumter County Schools have ensured that the necessary electronic infrastructure is in place for a seamless transition to digital learning. Schools are starting the year with a variety of technological advancements designed to enhance the educational experience.
Superintendent Richard Shirley recently highlighted the district’s commitment to staying on the cutting edge of technology, career preparation, and innovation. “We want all of our students to be successfully enrolled, enlisted, or employed,” she stated. “Sumter County aims to meet the academic needs of our students and prepare them for the future workforce needs of employers.”
A New Era of Learning
The shift from traditional learning tools like heavy textbooks and pencil and paper to modern technology represents a new era of learning for students. While traditional methods still hold value, laptops and tablets are becoming increasingly essential in education. These latest enhancements reflect the ever-changing world we live in and equip students with the skills and tools they need to succeed.

Kyle Coppola was born in Newton, Massachusetts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications from Curry College in 2016. After traveling to Florida on a family vacation, he decided he could not get enough of the warm weather and made the move from snowy Massachusetts to central Florida 8 years ago.
For the last decade Kyle has gained valuable experience in social media content creation, marketing and sales, writing, video production, sports announcing and even broadcasting for local radio stations, such as FM 102.9 in The Villages and FM 91.5 in Massachusetts. Every year he volunteers at The Villages Charter High School as a play-by-play sports announcer for the football games as well as a public address announcer for the basketball games, including the annual Battle at The Villages Tournament.
Outside the office Kyle is a husband and father to two beautiful girls along with their cat. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his family, travel, play golf and swim. He is also a huge sports junkie and even bigger motorsports fan and loves to attend racing events when he can.
