It may be a bunch of dirt now, but Leesburg Parks and Recreation is working with Kingdom Construction to reimagine the field area behind Marshall’s in Leesburg, which will become the Susan Street Recreation Complex.
“Progress is going relatively slow, but it’s going,” says head of Leesburg Parks and Recreation Travis Rima, “We’re in the final stages of working our permit out with the Army Corps engineers. As soon as we have that, the time frame will kick up a notch.”
Rima says the prospective end date of construction is currently Aug. 1, 2026.
The newly renovated recreation complex will have rugby-sized rectangular fields where sports like football, lacrosse and soccer can be played.
“Rugby fields are longer and wider than any other rectangle sport,” Travis says, “Our bread and butter is going to be football and soccer. Right now, we’re working with some national organizations for seven on seven football, but we’re really going to go after flag football, seven on seven football, soccer tournaments, lacrosse, we’ll be able to do all of those types of sports, anything that you can play on a rectangle field.”
The City of Leesburg plans on hosting league sports at this complex, when it is finished, for all ages. This means that children and adults will be able to participate in sports at this complex. The plan is also to bring in outside organizations, like local club teams, to use the fields.
The construction progress is expected to move forward smoothly with updates as construction continues.
