Back when Central Florida counties prominent in Florida’s booming citrus industry, the Citrus Tower in Clermont opened (July 1956) to promote the industry. The 226-foot tall building was made of steel and concrete, and visitors took an elevator to a glass-enclosed observation deck to see endless rows of citrus trees. It remains a popular tourist attraction, and on clear days, visitors can see parts of Lake, Sumter, Orange, Polk, Pasco, Hernando, Osceola, and Seminole counties.
