Toys for Tots Lake-Sumter to Exceed Last Year’s Distribution to More Than 16,000 Children

The Marine Toys for Tots Program in Lake-Sumter County is set to achieve another record-breaking year, with toy distributions expected to exceed last year’s total of 16,234 children. The program has already distributed 5,000 toys to children in the Clermont and Groveland areas, and the main distribution is underway at Phillips Collision Center, 3320 US-441 in Fruitland Park.

“Overall we should exceed the number of children from last year which was 16,234,”  Coordinator Colleen Foley says.

The Marine Toys for Tots Program aims to spread the joy of Christmas and bring hope to children all over the county. Locally, the program collaborates with schools, community organizations, and volunteers to ensure that thousands of children experience the magic of the holidays.

The program is more than a toy drive—it’s about creating a brighter future for children in need.

Established in 1947 and expanded with the creation of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation in 1991, the program has become a nationwide effort to bring holiday joy to children in need. Governed by a board of veteran Marines and business leaders, the foundation supports nearly 800 local campaigns annually, including Lake-Sumter County’s.

Last year’s campaign in Lake-Sumter County served over 16,000 children, a number that will be surpassed this year. Donations and distributions are made possible through the generosity of local donors, sponsors, and volunteers who help ensure no child is left behind during the holiday season.

The Lake-Sumter County Toys for Tots warehouse will close on December 16, marking the conclusion of yet another successful campaign. Donations are still being accepted at the warehouse, and every contribution helps make a difference in a child’s life.
