40 Under 40: Dr. Ebony Brown Milson
Dr. Ebony Brown Milson
Occupation: Physician with UF Health.
What I do: As a physician, I have many responsibilities, the first of which is my responsibility to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions. I perform physical exams, order and interpret tests, and prescribe medications. Patient education is a huge part of what I do. I provide information to help patients make informed decisions about their health. Also, advocating for patient’s rights and working with other physicians from different specialties is a part of what I do.
How I got started: Both of my parents are in the medical field and being around medicine my entire life, it felt like a natural path to take. The path to medicine is a long journey and my path started as an undergraduate student at the University of Florida obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biology.
I’m passionate about being a physician because: I love helping my patients and making a positive difference in their lives. I am an advocate of preventive medicine and love educating patients about their health.
My biggest professional accomplishment: Saving lives and improving health outcomes.
What I do outside the hospital: I love to travel with my husband Akai and we love walking our Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rocsi.
My first job: Babysitting in high school.
My local mentor: My mom Denise Brown. She is a member of the Central Florida Black Nurses Association and a CRNA. She is also someone I aspire to be like in my life. Her positive attitude, wisdom and unwavering strength have been a guiding light in my life.
The best advice I’ve received: “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I believe it is important not to compare yourself to others. You can only be the best version of you and there is only one you in the entire world, so know you are divinely special.
Fun fact: I am obsessed with Game of Thrones, Dune, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I have taken the quiz for “The Sorting Hat” multiple times and my traits align mostly with house Gryffindor. I signed the petition for GOT season 8 to be redone, watched Dune 1 and 2 so many times that I have lost track and my favorite character in Lord of Rings is Legalos.
If I had a million dollars to give away: I would support clean water projects, food hunger organizations, and sex trafficking rescue and recovery services for victims.
Life after 40: In the future, I see myself becoming a mother biologically and through adoption. Also, I would like to help shape central Florida’s future health care professionals by being a mentor. I hope to be a beacon of light to those in my community and support local organizations in whatever capacity I can.
