Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Continues Through Sunday
The annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is in full swing and will continue through Sunday, August 11. This initiative is designed to support Florida families by offering significant savings on essential items students need for the upcoming school year.
What Items Are Exempt?
During the 2024 Florida Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, the following items will be exempt from sales tax:
- Personal Computers and Accessories: Up to $1,500 for personal computers, tablets, electronic book readers, headphones, and related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. Eligible items include:
- Calculators
- Desktops
- Laptops
- Tablets
- Keyboards
- Mice
- Monitors (excluding those with television tuners)
- Modems
- Routers
- Non-recreational software
- Clothing and Footwear: Items with a sales price of $100 or less per item. This includes:
- All footwear (excluding skis, swim fins, roller blades, and skates)
- Articles of wearing apparel intended to be worn on or about the human body (excluding watches, jewelry, umbrellas, and handkerchiefs)
- Backpacks, diaper bags, fanny packs, and handbags
- School Supplies: Items with a sales price of $50 or less per item, including:
- Binders
- Notebooks
- Markers
- Pencils
- Crayons
- Glue
- Scissors
- Lunchboxes
- Erasers
- Folders
- Learning Aids and Jigsaw Puzzles: Items with a sales price of $30 or less, such as:
- Flashcards
- Interactive books
- Memory games
- Puzzle books
- Stacking or nesting blocks
Additional Information
- The tax holiday began on Monday, July 29, 2024, and will end on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
- There is no limit on the number of items that can be purchased tax-free, as long as each item meets the price limits.
Exclusions
The tax holiday does not apply to:
- Any item of clothing priced over $100
- School supplies priced over $50
- Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced over $30
- Computers and related accessories priced over $1,500 or purchased for commercial purposes
- Items sold in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, or airports
- Rentals, repairs, or alterations of any eligible items
