Leesburg High School Wins Regional Final Headed To Lakeland For Final Four!

LEESBURG, Fla. — The Leesburg Yellow Jackets are headed back to Lakeland. Behind a dominant performance, Leesburg defeated Lecanto in front of a packed home crowd Friday night, winning 61-46 and securing a spot in the FHSAA Final Four for the first time since 2021.

The Yellow Jackets, who split their regular-season series with Lecanto, made sure the rubber match counted the most. Leesburg had fallen to Lecanto 51-42 on Jan. 8 but rebounded with a 57-46 district championship win just weeks ago. This time, with a trip to Lakeland on the line, they left no doubt.
Junior Angelo Moton continued his standout season. Jalen Brown and sophomore Xavier Campbell chipped in further keeping Lecanto High at bay. For Leesburg High School the hometown crowd absolutely was a factor. Leesburg High is among the most intimidating places to play in Lake County. It seemed like everyone in town was at the game tonight and we couldn’t be more proud of the support this team has received. Leesburg’s relentless defense and high-energy play proved to be the difference. This is something this team has worked on the entire year and tonight they shined.

“This team has been locked in all season,” said head coach Sean Campbell. “From the first day, we set our goal: Lakeland or bust. Now we’re here, and we’re not done yet.”
Leesburg, a program with a storied basketball history, will now have a chance to add another championship banner to its gym. The Yellow Jackets have previously won state titles in 2017, 2018, 2011, and 1977. In their last Final Four appearance in 2021, they suffered a heartbreaking 59-58 loss to Choctawhatchee. This year, they’re determined to rewrite that script.
Tip-off in Lakeland is set for March 5th, where Leesburg will battle for a shot at the state title. The schedule and opponents will be announced in the coming days. The FHSAA will reconfigure the brackets. When we figure out who they are playing we will post that on our page. Congratulations Leesburg High School!
