Father of Fallen Deputy Honored with American Flag During Award Ceremony in Clermont

CLERMONT, Fla. — The father of a fallen Lake County sheriff’s deputy was presented with a folded American flag Thursday during a solemn ceremony held by the American Legion Post 55 in Clermont, nearly eight months after his son was killed in the line of duty.
Daniel Link, father of Master Deputy Bradley Link, accepted the flag as part of a tribute to his son’s service and sacrifice. Master Deputy Link was ambushed and fatally shot last August in Eustis by Michael Sulpizo after entering a mobile home.
The emotional moment came as part of the presentation of the Master Deputy Bradley Link Memorial Law and Order Award, named in his honor. This year’s recipient, Deputy Corey LaBrecque, was recognized “in recognition of the outstanding performance of your duties as a law enforcement officer resulting in saving a life. Your actions demonstrate commitment to your profession and dedication to your community,” the citation read.
While the award celebrated heroism in the field, the ceremony also served as a poignant reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face and the lasting impact their service leaves behind. As Daniel Link clutched the flag—carefully folded into the traditional triangle—it symbolized not only his son’s devotion to duty but also the enduring gratitude we should all have for these officers keeping us safe everyday.
