How Two Industry Veterans Built a Company You Can Trust

The team behind Armor Roofing & Home Improvement is a hard-working testimony of putting customers first. That’s exactly what Justin Shelton and Bobby Roesch had in mind when they started the company.

If ever a business partnership was meant to be, it’s this one. The two men became friends while working together at a roofing company in 2003. Knowing what they wanted—and didn’t want—in their own business, they launched Armor Roofing & Home Improvement in 2022.

Their choice of name and the Armor Roofing logo was strategic. From day one, the partners’ mission has been to provide homeowners with peace of mind by shielding their homes.

“We had a vision of what we wanted to offer our customers and how we wanted to treat our employees. We took what we learned along the way at the other large roofing companies and tailored that to operate so that our integrity could shine through,” says Justin.

Bobby was born and raised in Central Florida; he and his wife have two daughters and a son. Justin’s family moved here from Indiana when he was just 6; he and his wife have one son.

Family men who are fully committed to their community, Justin and Bobby lead a skilled team of experienced employees, both in the field and the office.

Management staff rockstars include Eddie McDonald, new construction department manager and senior estimator; Steven Walz, senior project manager; project managers Bo Boyles and Brian Dubicki; Trevor Lane, logistics coordinator; Andrew Miller, senior roofing consultant; and roofing consultants Steven Barnes, Nancy Barnes and Allen Barton.

Cassandra Lamb holds down the fort as office manager, while Ashton Walton serves as marketing director.

Roofing of all types

Armor Roofing & Home Improvement provides all-in-one convenience that includes full-service roofing for any type of structure from mobile homes to high-end luxury homes and commercial buildings, as well as home improvement projects.

Their experienced, versatile team provides:

  • Residential roofing: repairs, replacements, inspections
  • New construction roofing
  • Commercial roofing: flat roofs, metal, TPO, long-term maintenance
  • Home improvement repair
  • Storm damage and insurance claims

Fully licensed and insured, Armor Roofing has built a reputation for customer satisfaction one job at a time. Their team approaches every project with an emphasis on honesty, transparency, and doing things right the first time.

What sets Armor apart

By providing outstanding work, attention to detail and clear communication, the company makes each customer’s job a priority.

Armor Roofing has the highest-level credentials possible with two of the largest roofing manufacturers, which is good news for homeowners. These credentials include CertainTeed® Select Shingle Master and GAF Master Elite® contractors.

“The industry standard for labor warranty is 3 to 5 years, but with these credentials we can offer up to 25 years labor warranty backed by the manufacturer. Less than two percent of roofing contractors in North America have the GAF Master Elite® contractors’ credential,” notes Bobby. “We choose to partner with the best manufacturers that we know will service our customers if there ever is a problem—which is rare.”

“We believe in installing a compete manufacturer’s roofing system, meaning we utilize a single manufacturers’ roofing products on each project. We don’t ‘Frankenstein,’ which is mixing together products from different manufacturers,” says Justin.

“We’re well versed in complicated commercial scopes and often do the jobs other roofing contractors don’t,” he adds.

Ahead of the curve

Customers reap the benefits of Armor Roofing’s long-standing relationships with industry suppliers.

“We’ve been partners with the largest roofing supply company in the nation for years. We also have relationships with some of the top-level executives from multiple manufacturers, including shingle, tile, and metal manufacturers,” says Justin, who is also associate vice president of the Home Builders Association of Lake-Sumter (HBA-LS).

Justin and Bobby take annual continuing education classes with chief building officials, attorneys, and the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA).

“We have a meeting every month with all the local building officials. Codes can be added and changed every three years and municipalities can also make changes. The training and continuing education we do allow us to stay ahead of the curve on new laws, codes and regulations for our industry,” Justin notes.

Detail oriented

Armor Roofing is a mix of old school and new school. They use the latest technology and products but believe that a hands-on, personal approach is always best.

“We are a ‘boots on the roof’ type of company. From the first call to the office to set up the appointment to when we come out, we always make sure to get on the roof to know what we’re dealing with,” says Justin.

It’s common for roofing companies to use the new satellite services for measuring. Armor Roofing utilizes these services but doesn’t rely on this alone.

“We don’t feel that’s the best way to offer service to our customers, so we always get on the roof ourselves to inspect and measure it. That way we can detect any damage,” says Justin. “You can expect our roofing consultant to be extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the process.”

On new construction projects, the Armor team meets with the builder and general contractor on site to ensure the plans are correct so they can deliver the functional roofing job as intended and designed.

Start to finish

For all roofing jobs, after measurements are complete, the customer is given a detailed estimate that clearly states which manufacturer’s products will be used.

Once the customer signs the contract, the scheduling process begins. Cassandra lets the customer know the material delivery date, as well as the project start date.

Each job has a dedicated project manager along with a competent factory trained and experienced crew foreman. The same crew works the entire project. The on-site project manager meets with the customer at the start of the job and keeps them updated throughout.

Most re-roofing jobs are completed in one to two days. The job site is kept clean all through the process.

“We tarp the driveway and the area where the dump trailer sits. We run magnets throughout the property, including the driveway and flower beds. We also have canopies set up where our workers can cool off,” says Bobby.

Upon completion, the project manager walks the job to ensure quality and if any issues are recognized, the customer is informed, and those issues are addressed immediately.

“Our goal is to leave the home looking even more beautiful than it was. The customer won’t even know we were there except that they now have a beautiful new roof or completed home improvement project,” Bobby says.

Home Improvement

When it comes to home improvement and repair, Armor can handle almost project, including:

  • Stucco and siding
  • Facia, soffit and gutters
  • Painting (interior and exterior)
  • Screen enclosures
  • Chimney rebuilds

“We wanted to offer the convenience to homeowners so they can meet with us, and we’ll take care of everything. They don’t have to manage their own jobs because we can offer all these services. Some of the tradesmen we work with are locals we’ve known since middle school,” says Justin.

Storm damage and insurance claims

Armor Roofing steps up as a partner during tough times by offering emergency services and insurance claims support to give peace-of-mind to homeowners.

‘We have over 20 years of insurance-related work experience. We are well versed with assisting customers throughout the insurance claims process,” says Justin.

This includes helping homeowners navigate through the tedious and lengthy claims process all the way from initial inspection, tarping the roof to prevent further damage, if needed, doing repairs as stipulated, meeting the insurance adjustor on site and providing the procedure documents to the insurance company for final payment.

“Most people don’t realize a normal insurance claim can add 20 to 40 hours of additional leg work behind the scenes that has to be done. We meet the insurance adjuster on site to point out the damage. Because of our knowledge with local building codes and manufacturer installation instructions, we can help ease the customer’s mind,” Justin notes.

If storm damage extends beyond the roof, Armor Roofing can address the damage, provide a proper estimate and complete the repairs, as needed.

Local matters

Armor Roofing purchased a staple of Leesburg–the old Lenhart Electrical building. The company is proud of its standing in the community and works to reinforce those connections every day.

“So many of the large local roofers have been bought by hedge fund companies, but local matters. We’re a locally owned company that gives back to our community and helps as much as we can,” says Justin.

Armor Roofing recently raised 1,196 pounds of food for the food pantry, Lake Cares, and is planning a back-to-school drive.

“We support local businesses here, from vehicles to services. As business owners ourselves, we realize the importance of supporting local establishments, so we can all thrive together,” Justin says.

Make the call

Whether it’s time for a new roof, you’re missing a few shingles, or your home needs repair after storm damage, Armor Roofing is in your corner and ready to make things right.

The company offers discounts for military members, first responders, doctors, nurses, and teachers, so let them know if you fall into one of these categories.
