Navigating the Golden Years with Compassion and Practical Help

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, America’s baby boom generation numbers about 73 million. By 2030, all living members of this generation born from 1946 to 1964 will be at least 65 years old.

By 2034, older adults are projected to outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history.

This aging of America means that home health care will become a necessity for many people at some point.

When the doctor says that you or a loved one need care, you’ll probably have many questions.

Many Central Florida residents have found the answers by turning to Lake Centre Home Care, the home health agency in Leesburg dedicated to helping older adults navigate their golden years.

The management team of Shayna Grunewald, Lori Davis, and Andrea Smart emphasizes a patient-centered approach and insists on the highest standards of care.

“We are locally owned and operated, so we have a vested interest in taking care of our community and neighbors.”

Shayna Grunewald, CEO

Shayna, Lori and Andrea are all natives of Lake and Sumter counties.

“We are from the area. We grew up here and our reputation means everything to us,” adds Lori Davis, COO. “It’s not just a job, it’s personal.”

Skilled care and more

Lake Centre Home Care offers a full range of services, both skilled and private duty.

“We are a skilled home health agency that is accredited by ACHC (Accreditation Commission for Health Care), a national commission. That means we meet the highest standards required to achieve this accreditation. All our staff have had level two background checks, in addition to other screenings to ensure we know who we are sending into our patients’ homes. Patients are cared for by a team of qualified clinicians,” notes Shayna.

Lake Centre Home Care’s skilled services include:

Registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs)

 Home health aides

 Physical therapy

 Occupational therapy

 Speech therapy

Skilled services require referral from a physician.

Happiest at home

Private duty non-skilled care can be a game changer for older adults who want to continue living at home.

A May 2021 study from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research showed that 88 percent of adults prefer to stay in their own homes while getting ongoing living assistance.

“According to the National Institutes of Health, aging in place has proven to increase a positive quality of life, self-esteem, and happiness. The longer someone can live in a familiar environment the better their quality of life. We all want to remain independent for as long as possible,” says Andrea Smart, who joined Lake Centre Home Care in March 2022 to help open the Private Duty division.

Non-skilled services and assistance with everyday activities are provided in your home by a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA) or Companion with the oversight of a Registered Nurse.

Private duty services include:

  Personal care

  Transportation

  Homemaking

  Companionship

No physician referral required.

Lake Centre Home Care’s staff are fully equipped to provide services in the client’s own home. For the initial visit, an RN comes to your home to do an assessment and create a care plan. There is no charge for this first visit.

For clients who only need basic help, Lake Centre Home Care created their “bath program,” which is offered for a flat fee to help the client get out of bed, bathed, dressed, have breakfast, and start their day.

“Not everyone needs a 4-hour block of care. Some only need assistance with showers and dressing. Or in some instances, they may feel uncomfortable with a family member or friend showering them,” says Andrea.

Private duty care can make it possible to maintain social outings even if you no longer drive.

“Our qualified staff can help get our clients to and from appointments. We can transport clients to hair appointments, doctor appointments, or the grocery store,” says Shayna. “Sometimes just getting out and about can improve the client’s state of mind and provide that social stimulation we all need as human beings.”

Private duty non-skilled services do not require a physician’s referral. Simply call the office, explain what you need, and a plan can be created.

Personal attention

Lake Centre Home Care clients rave about the fact that they can always reach someone to help them.

“We are only a phone call away,” says Lori. “When you call our office during normal business hours, a human located right here in Lake County will answer the phone. If you need to speak with someone after normal business hours, we have an on-call phone that our clinicians answer 24 hours
a day.”

Lake Centre Home Care services Lake, Sumter, and Marion Counties. Call today to schedule your initial visit and find the help you need.
