The historic Clifford House in Eustis, is undergoing a transformation as it transitions from the Eustis Historical Museum Board to the stewardship of the City of Eustis. This transition is part of the ongoing efforts to preserve and revitalize this cherished piece of local history.

For many years, dedicated volunteers from the Eustis Historical Museum Board have tirelessly maintained the 1911 former private home and the adjacent Citrus Museum, welcoming visitors and preserving the rich heritage of the area. Now, under the leadership of the City’s Events and Tourism team, led by Miranda Muir, plans are underway to evaluate and enhance the interior of the Clifford House.

A donation of $500 from Ace Hardware will contribute to the funding of the interior renovation project. Mayor Michael Holland expressed his enthusiasm for the preservation efforts.

“The Clifford House is such a vital and visible landmark in our beautiful city, and the City Commission is delighted that it will be preserved and protected for future generations,” Mayor Michael Holland says. “The Museum is an important part of our history and will serve as a place for learning and a place for celebrations in the coming years.”

In addition to interior renovations, Vice-Mayor Emily Lee and Commissioner Nan Cobb are leading the project to beautify the exterior of the Clifford House through participation in America in Bloom. This initiative aims to enhance the vitality and quality of life through strategic beautification efforts. The City has already begun the process by removing dangerous and diseased trees, trimming healthy ones, and planting new garden beds. Additionally, they improved access to the site by removing the chain-link fence and performed essential maintenance tasks such as power washing and painting. They are still seeking approval for a much-needed roof repair from the Historic Preservation Commission.

A grand opening event for the revitalized Clifford House is scheduled for late spring. Further details about the event will be announced.
