Abi McDonald

Biggest academic accomplishment: Getting 4’s on three of my AP exams.

Hobbies: Painting, knitting, embroidery, drawing and crocheting.

A personal achievement I’m proud of: Crocheting my first sweater! I learned how to crochet in January of 2024 because I wanted a frog hat and all the ones I could find were not exactly what I wanted. I decided that I would try and find a tutorial to make the hat myself so it would turn out exactly the way I wanted. I spent two weeks learning how to make the frog hat and despite all the challenges, it turned out great. This led to me loving the art of crochet and I continued to learn how to make multiple other things. In May of 2024, one of my friends asked me if I sold my crochet items and I said yes. After that first sale I thought that selling my work would be a great way to raise money to spend on my trip to Japan that I went on in July last year. I have continued to sell my crochet items since my trip as a way to have money to spend when me and my friends hang out.

Most challenging thing l’ve overcome: Passing all my final exams in my first semester at LSSC.

Favorite subject: Science.

Outside of school, you’ll find me: At the library.

Three words that describe me: Creative. Determined. Patient.

I’m inspired by: Cleo Abram. She has a YouTube channel where she shares optimistic science and technology stories, which I think are really cool and interesting.

Topping my playlist: ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles.

In five years, I see myself: In university getting a degree in Marine Biology.

Best advice I would give my younger self: Try everything you can and if possible, don’t turn down opportunities.

If I could have one superpower, it would be: Shapeshifting, so I could turn into animals and change my hair color whenever I wanted. ©
