Florida’s Minimum Wage to Increase Next Week

Florida’s minimum wage will rise to $14 an hour beginning Sept. 30th, the latest step in a gradual increase approved by voters in 2020.
The wage hike is part of a constitutional amendment championed by Orlando attorney John Morgan, which requires annual $1 increases until the minimum wage reaches $15 in 2026.
The measure has steadily boosted wages since 2021, and supporters say the change helps working families keep pace with the rising cost of living. Critics, however, warn that small businesses may face higher labor costs that could lead to reduced hiring or increased prices for consumers.
Florida is among a growing number of states moving toward a $15 minimum wage, a target that has sparked debate nationwide over its economic impact.
