Wildwood Girls Flag-Football Team Make History: Will Compete in State Championships
The Wildwood Middle High School girls flag-football program have made history becoming the first team in school history to make it to the State Championships. They pulled off a big victory last evening against Lecanto to earn the opportunity to compete with some of the best teams on the biggest stage in High School sports for flag-football.
Last evening the game was intense. 8th Grade Quarterback Zoey Brown was terrific all night and she has been all year long. She was not intimidated by facing players much older than her. In fact she embraces it. Despite trailing behind Lecanto early in the gaem, the Wildcats kept up a great fight. The game came down to a thrilling climax in the final minutes of the game.
Wildwood was down 27-25 with just one minute remaining. The Lady Wildcats went on a drive down the field. Zoey Brown scrambled for a decisive touchdown in the final mintue of play to secure a 32-27 victory for the Wildcats and propelling the tema into the Elite Eight for the first time in school history! Wildwood is now 11-0 on the season. Every game is an elimination game now and Wildwood did everything they could to ensure victory last evening. It came down to the final seconds but what a finish!
The Lady Cats are now going to face their most challenging opponent yet. They will face Robinson High School in Tampa at 7:00pm on Friday, May 3rd. The school is asking for support. This game will be played at Robinson High School. This is a huge moment for girls sports in Sumter County. We are so excited for the lady Wildcats to earn this opportunity and no matter what happens they have made us proud all year long.
Go Lady Cats!
