Leesburg Searching for Volunteers for New America in Bloom Initiative
The City of Leesburg is calling on community members to join an exciting new beautification project. As part of the America in Bloom (AIB) initiative, Leesburg aims to enhance the city’s public spaces, create vibrant landscapes, and strengthen community pride. This is a chance for residents, local businesses, and community leaders to come together and make a lasting impact.
At a recent city meeting, Cliff Kelsey from Leesburg Public Works provided an overview of the AIB program, outlining its mission of beautification, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. He shared how the city has completed the initial steps for joining AIB, including filing applications and paying the initiation fee, with plans to display the official America in Bloom plaque and banner in Town Square. Kelsey explained that the initiative will operate in three stages: activating the community, building the volunteer-led beautification board, and empowering local residents to enhance public spaces across Leesburg.
Sandi Moore from the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce also spoke on the importance of the initiative, noting that Leesburg is already doing a lot to make the city beautiful, such as seasonal flower plantings and maintenance of Main Street. Moore emphasized that the AIB program would help highlight and coordinate these ongoing efforts, promoting Leesburg as a destination for both locals and visitors.
How You Can Get Involved:
- Apply for the Beautification Board: Leesburg is forming a group of community members who will help lead the initiative, brainstorm ideas, and prioritize beautification projects.
- Partner with the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce: Business owners, join us to make the city of Leesburg a beautiful, welcoming destination for all.
- Support Local Projects: Community members can participate in activities like planting flowers, maintaining gardens, and other hands-on projects.
“To drive the community spirit and volunteer effort and to really make the program thrive, this is where we feel this program needs to go,” Cliff says. “It’s time to bring Leesburg to the national stage.”
